Message ❤️ Love

«Being true to yourself, even when it disappoints others, is the most radical act of love that exists.»

Reflection

Is there something in your life you are doing only to satisfy the image others have of you?

Going deeper

There is something luminous in the idea that each of us arrives in this world with our own design, and that adult life is largely a matter of slowly recognizing it. Jung called this path individuation: becoming, little by little, who you actually are rather than only who you were expected to be. He was not talking about being special or rebelling against everything. He meant integrating all the parts of yourself, including the ones that don't quite fit the mold.

To live alongside others, we all wear what Jung called the persona: the face we show the world depending on our role as daughter, colleague, friend or partner. It is a valuable tool, and there is no need to fight it. The trouble begins when the mask sticks so firmly that we forget what lies beneath. Think of someone who always volunteers to organize the family birthday, even when she is exhausted. Everyone tells her, "You're so wonderful," and that praise both holds her up and boxes her in. It becomes harder and harder to imagine saying something different and still being loved.

According to Jung, what we don't live does not disappear. It gathers in the shadow and returns as fatigue, resentment, or a sadness with no name. That is why being faithful to yourself is not slamming a door or being harsh. It can be as simple as suggesting that this year several people share the organizing. Someone may be surprised or uncomfortable, and that is human. But being loved for a role is different from being loved for who you are, and only the second can truly nourish you.

Individuation doesn't happen all at once, and it doesn't demand perfection. It happens in small gestures, with tenderness toward yourself, even when it is hard. Perhaps the question that stays with you is which part of you has been patiently waiting for a place at the table.
