Message 🌅 Hope

«Maybe today life isn't asking anything big of you, just something small that only you can give: a kind word, a job done with care, a cup of tea shared. Viktor Frankl observed that meaning isn't invented in the head; it appears when we answer what each moment asks of us. Whatever falls to you today already has someone, somewhere, who is waiting for it.»

Reflection

What small thing in your day, if you did it with presence, might matter to someone other than yourself?

Going deeper

Viktor Frankl, a psychiatrist and survivor of the concentration camps, proposed something that changed psychology: we are not the ones asking life what its meaning is; life is asking us. And the answer isn't a brilliant phrase. It is an action, an attitude, a concrete presence in whatever is in front of us.

That brings meaning down from the clouds to the kitchen table. We tend to think meaning is some grand mission we haven't found yet, and meanwhile we live feeling that today is just paperwork. Frankl described three paths: creating or doing something, living an experience or an encounter, and choosing the attitude with which we face what we cannot change. All three fit into an ordinary Monday, including this one.

Think of someone who makes breakfast for their family with care, even though they're tired. Or a person who answers the phone at work and, by the way they speak, eases the day of whoever called. Nobody will give them a medal, and yet there is meaning right there: something of them reached another person and touched them. That is a way of being needed that doesn't depend on being famous, productive or perfect.

When the task is the same as always, attention is what transforms it. Asking yourself who your work serves doesn't add effort; it adds direction. And direction is often what gives a bit of light back to a morning that felt like routine. Today you don't need to find your purpose. It is enough to answer well the small question life is asking you right now.
